Health And Safety

The aim of this module is to illustrate how the health and safety legislative framework impacts on the dental environment, dental professionals working within that environment and their patients.

On completion of this module, the learner will be familiar with:

  • all aspects of safety in the workplace and how to maintain it
  • dental waste and what to do in the event of spillage.

Infection Control

Medical Emergencies

Radiography

On completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • discuss ionising radiation
  • define radiation protection in the dental environment
  • discuss the principles of dental radiography
  • describe dental radiographs, equipment and materials
  • recognise the importance of patient management
  • list the procedures involved in the processing and mounting of dental radiographs.

Record Keeping

On completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • explain the legal implications for confidentiality with patient information
  • identify the components of a clinical record and record relative patient data accurately.

Surgery Routine

On completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • prepare the surgery at the start of the day
  • support the patient and clinician during treatment
  • clean and re-set the surgery between patients
  • clean and re-set the surgery between sessions (eg lunch time)
  • close the surgery and remove waste at the end of the day.

Working Within The Team

On completion of this module, the learner will be able to:

  • explain the role of each dental team member and how they work together
  • act professionally following professional guidelines
  • improve your communication with patients and team members.
